2011

 

Center for Women in Transition

...assists women in the criminal justic system in making a successful transition back to their families and communities.  The Center has a Mentoring and Advocacy program as well as provides transitional housing.  The grant will be used to purchase two commercial washers and two commercial dryers for Cortois House.
 

Opal's House

...strives to eliminate the effects of domestic violence within families or intimate partner relationships and to empower women and their children to rebuild and live their lives free from fear of harm within their families.  Opal’s House requested a grant to provide a video security system that will provide more security inside and outside the shelter, more cameras, live recording, and playback as well as remote access.

 

Room at the Inn

...provides immediate, temporary shelter to homeless women and families in St. Louis County. In addition, the staff works with the women to create an individualized plan back to self-sufficiency, including referrals to other human services agencies. The capital project the grant will be applied to is the MegaBuild! project.  This project involves pairing a high school girl interested in STEM with a college woman studying STEM to build the 15 computers that are part of the project.

 

Gateway Voice of Midlife & Older Women (OWL)

… strives to improve the image, quality of life and status of mid-life and older women through services, education and advocacy. Funding for the Women's Financial Education Series planned for Fall, 2011. This series will help women increase their current level of financial knowledge, develop confidence in their financial decision-making ability and gain control of their lives through informed money management.
 

Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri

…is a multi-age troop for girls whose mothers are incarcerated at the Women's Eastern Reception, Diagnostic and Correctional Center in Vandalia, Missouri. The program provides regular visits to the correctional center, where the girls and mothers work together on projects, along with traditional Girl Scout troop meetings at the GSEM St. Louis Service Center, where the girls build relationships with caring adult volunteers who support the troop.

 

Haven of Grace

… serves homeless, pregnant women ages 18 to 24 and applied for a small grant to fund book stipends for women attending college or vocational programs. The Haven of Grace endeavors to empower young, pregnant women to overcome homelessness and thereby achieve stability. To that end, it provides a nurturing home, educational programs and long-term support for mother and child.
 

Legal Advocates for Abused Women (LAAW)

…provides free legal representation at Order of Protection hearings and related domestic cases, legal information and advice, court advocacy, immediate on-going crisis support and other services for battered women and their children who are poor and underserved. LAAW also provides community education about the Adult Abuse Law and Order of Protection to victims and professionals. Funding for general operating expenses.
 

Marian Middle School

… is committed to breaking the cycle of poverty by fostering their development in preparation for college preparatory high schools. Over the past 10 years, Marian has graduated 110 students; of these, 72 are attending area high schools and 20 are enrolled in college. Funding for general operating expenses.
 

Redevelopment Opportunities for Women (ROW)

…has a mission to empower women and their families to build skills, economic security, personal safety, and hope for the future. Funding for the Family Strengths program. This program focuses on personal skill development, intimate partner violence and child abuse education, promotion of active parenting practices and financial education.

 

2010

 

Immigrant & Refugee Women's Program

... has as its mission "to increase the independence and reduce the isolation of immigrant and refugee women by teaching them English and practical living skills." The group will serve 125 women in the next year. Funding for general operations.
 

Marian Middle School

... is committed to breaking the cycle of poverty by preparing underserved middle-school girls to enter college prep high schools. Funding for small capital needs.
 

Safe Connections

.—.. has as its mission "to reduce the impact and incidence of relationship violence and sexual assault through prevention education, crisis intervention and counseling and support services."Funding for transportation to counseling.
 

St. Martha's Hall

...is an emergency, confidential, safe shelter. Funding is for interpreters for women who speak little or no English. 
 

Women in Charge

...is an organization that provides education and support for women who want to get their GED.Funding for general operations.

 

Women's Safe House

... is the largest emergency domestic violence shelter for women and children in the St. Louis area. Funding to establish a transportation fund for emergency situations.
 

2009

 

Let's Start

—...is an organization led by and for formerly incarcerated women to help stop the cycle of incarceration in families. Funding for general operations.
 

Women's Place—

...is a drop-in center for women experiencing relations violence. Funding for a brochure listing services to women experiencing violence.

 

Women in Vision

...provides a range of counseling and education programs to incarcerated women. Funding for training materials.
 

Girls, Inc.

... serves girls with after-school programming. Funding to add Project Bold to the curriculum; it provides age- appropriate and gender specific violence prevention programming to give girls 10-12 years old the skills, strategies, and support for personal safety.
